Veronique pours a wealth of knowledge into our sessions. She’s a true artist and talented teacher. I feel uplifted working with her, like my goals are within reach!

VOCAL STUDENT

My journey with music is very important to me and Veronique has proven to be a wonderful coach. Her technique and overall process for developing the voice have been invaluable in my efforts to bring out my voice. I feel that I am not just learning to sing notes but rather learning to use song as an instrument to communicate my life.

VOCAL STUDENT

One of my favorite people.

Chris Ridenhour

Very happy with Veronique! My 9 year old is learning so much and really looks forward to the lessons!

VOCAL STUDENT's Mama

Veronique put my granddaughter at ease and inspired her. I am very happy with her lesson.

VOCAL STUDENT's Grandma

Veronique produces songs like how trees produce oxygen for humans. She's a true songstress, and when I say, "She can SANG!", I say with sincerity that she's one of the most versatile and great singers in Denver. Blues, Jazz, Soul, Gospel, Pop, etc.... V's humble brag hides all of this though! Yet, her professionalism and talent won't keep her hidden for too long!

Lee Clark Allen

She’ll turn up places and have written a song on the way, and what’s almost irritating is, they’re all complete songs, and they’re never bad, and they’re often amazing.

Miles Wilder

Before I started taking voice lessons, the only aspects of an instructor I wanted was for them to value the perfection of fundamentals and discipline within the trade of singing. Veronique Van Pelt possesses both of these qualities (and many more) as an instructor and has certainly deserved the position as my recommendation for others who seek to discover and develop their singing voice.

VOCAL STUDENT

Veronique was very experienced with singing all types of music. Her personality is fun and kind.

VOCAL STUDENT

Loved it!

frequently asked questions about vocal coaching

What is your motivation as a coach?

Basically, I hope to make you your own vocal coach.   I'm always around to assist you as a technician, personal trainer, or cheerleader, but I want you to have the confidence that comes from knowing you are taking good care of your vocal health, with the freedom to explore the outer limits of your expression safely.  My goal is not to have you coming back week after week - if you feel like doing so, that's fine, but I want you to feel you have understanding and control of your voice, without me, as quickly as possible.  It usually takes about 4 sessions on average to begin feeling meaningful results - hence the incentive to commit to at least 4 sessions.  After that, I try to offer even deeper discounts to reward your commit to deep conditioning your vocal habits.

What is trauma informed vocal coaching?

As a former child prodigy, it’s especially important to me to help folks integrate their whole authentic selves into healthy vocal expression.  Singing is a full body mindful activity, and it’s important to pay attention to whatever emotions and memories come up in your mind and in your body in the course of that experience. In that way vocal sessions can be excellent meditation and physical self-care.  I'm here to hold space for whatever happens to come up as we explore this particular mind-body connection, with a referral roster of mental health professionals ready to help should the need arise.  I will help you identify the mechanics of how your voice works while we work to create and build support for self-nurturing habits, to better prepare you to be a fearlessly, joyful, autodidactic vocal artist til your dying day.

What is your typical process for working with a new client?

After establishing your goals we’ll get working on them. If you intend to study voice with me, the first hour is background before we even start doing scales. Whether you continue with me past that first hour or not, I intend to meaningfully improve your feeling of control and confidence over your vocal expression. If you are committing to a full training course of at least 4 sessions, this has the practical benefit of allowing you to sit with the update to how to approach vocals, before also adding the complexity of learning a new vocalization regimen. First, before vocalizations, it is important for the vocalist on training to get in touch with their baseline breath and self-knowledge of vocal vibrancy.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

In addition to beginning rigorous lessons with my mother starting age 3, theatre at age 6, and professional singing at age 9, I completed a songwriting and recording mentor program with an award winning production crew while studying at the University of Southern California, where I earned a B. of Sc. in Music Industry business emphasis cum laude from Thornton School of Music. While still at USC my music began receiving placements in television and I recorded and wrote for numerous network productions; I now have extensive experience providing music and vocals for film and television. I am a prolific songwriter with hundreds of solo and co-written compositions on piano and guitar. I am in the habit of writing music on commission. I have participated professionally in groups across the musical spectrum, and, including the upcoming releases, I have sung lead on about a dozen studio projects, most of which are full length albums. I also voice act and assist in the management of other professional artists.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I began acting at 6 and debuted as a professional singer shortly after my 10th birthday, but my formal coaching began at 3 years old with my mother, herself a coach and phenomenal singer who had turned down numerous recording contracts in favor of a life of charity. She began formally apprenticing me to teach others at 15, after I had already been engaged in coaching other children and even adults in community theatre for several years.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with all ages and all levels of professionalism, all needs, all genders.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

A good coach will help you in half an hour - or five minutes, it doesn’t matter; they should be tuned to you, not their own idea of what a “good voice” is. There are a lot of practical aspects to operating a voice safely and well, with many straight forward pointers and tips to be had, and it’s not brain surgery.

After that first lesson, the coach will begin working with you to reinforce the muscle memory and stamina involved with singing, and a really good coach will also help you overcome your own inhibitions towards performing while giving you solid grounding in the basics of music theory. If you are a professional, I highly recommend the regimen followed by major pop stars, which is to check in and work out regularly with your coach, especially before major performances.

In fact, good technique will prevent surgery, a procedure known in the industry as ‘scraping the chords,’ sometimes required after singing with years of bad technique. Good technique will allow you to sing and explore the whole global variety of music for the rest of your life.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Make it clear what you’d like to accomplish, whether that’s singing with the choir or slaying at karaoke or pulling off a legitimate Gaga style high line every night. Make sure that coach has a reference for that experience that enables them to walk you through the challenges and the technique to overcome them. Also, you should attempt to ascertain how much that coach will make an investment in you as a person and as a artist, taking responsibility and pride in your progress.
